Actor Jaspal Bhatti dies in a car mishap

Well-known actor and comedian Jaspal Bhatti passed away in a road accident near Jalandhar early this morning. He was 57.

Jaspal Bhatti along with his son Jasraj Bhatti was going to Jalandhar from Bhatinda to promote his Punjabi film Power Cut, which is due to release tomorrow.

Mr Bhatti's associate Vinod Sharma informed PTI that the car in which Jaspal Bhatti and his son was travelling hit a tree near Shahkot in Nakodar area of the district around 1 am.

Jasraj, who was driving the car, and film's heroine, Suril Gautam were gravely injured and have been rushed to DMC Hospital, Ludhiana.

Mr Bhatti has been very busy for the past few days promoting his film. Mr Bhatti leaves behind his wife Savita, a son and a daughter.

The cremation is likely to take place later this evening after his body is brought to Chandigarh (after completion of various legal formalities, including post-mortem).

Mr Bhatti became popular after his television series Flop Show and Ulta Pulta, which hit the small screen in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Mr Bhatti has also appeared in a few Hindi movies. He was seen in Aamir Khan and Kajol's Fanaa, where he played the role of a guard named Jolly Good Singh. He also played the role of a principal in Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe and was seen in Punjabi film Jijaji.
