Rajesh Khanna, India's first superstar, was Jaya Bhaduri's (now Jaya Bachchan) very good friend. Jaya Bhaduri was madly in love with Amitabh Bachchan. Amitabh was a struggling actor when Jaya said yes to work with him in Zanjeer. However, Rajesh Khanna never liked it and stopped Jaya Bhaduri from meeting Amitabh.
According to Rediff, Rajesh Khanna told Jaya, "Kyun tum is aadmi ke saath ghumti ho? Tumhara kuch nahi hoga, this fellow cannot be a hero -- this is my challenge." When Amitabh used to come on the sets of Bawarchi to meet Jaya, Rajesh Khanna used to give him royal ignore and Rajesh used to insult Amitabh by not recognising him.
It has been said that after Namak Haram got released, Rajesh Khanna got very scared of Amitabh Bachchan's success. Just to prove he is a bigger star than Amitabh, he made Amitabh's producers to sign him for a movie.
Jaya Bachchan, who got very upset with Rajesh Khanna's behaviour told him once, "Ek din dekhna yeh kahan hoga aur tum kahan hogey (One day, you will see where he will be and where you will be)."
