Mumbai:
Amid
allegations
that
upcoming
film
Son
of
Sardar
depicts
the
Sikh
community
in
bad
light,
film's
producer
and
actor
Ajay
Devgn
has
said
that
he
has
a
lot
of
respect
for
the
sikh
community
and
after
seeing
the
movie
they
will
be
proud
of
it.
The
All
India
Sikh
Students
Federation
(AISSF)
has
urged
the
clergy
to
take
action
against
actor-producer
Ajay
Devgn.
In
a
letter
to
Akal
Takht
(the
highest
temporal
seat
of
the
Sikh
religion)
head
Gurbachan
Singh,
AISSF
president
Karnail
Singh
demanded
action
against
Devgn
for
hurting
the
religious
sentiments
of
Sikhs.
The
AISSF
chief
had
said
in
the
film
there
are
lines
that
say,
"If
Sikhs
weren't
there,
then
who
would
have
invented
abuses" and
"If
Sardar
weren't
there,
then
on
whom
would
the
jokes
be
made",
which
are
very
demeaning.
"My
film
Son
of
Sardar
does
not
hurt
anybody's
sentiments.
I'm
from
Punjab
and
I
have
a
lot
of
respect
for
the
community
and
culture
as
anyone
else
and
the
last
thing
I
would
do
is
to
hurt
anyone.
In
fact,
I'm
very
proud
of
the
community," Ajay
said
in
a
statement.
Ajay,
whose
roots
are
in
Amritsar,
insists
that
the
film
has
been
made
under
the
guidance
of
knowledgeable
people.
"At
no
point
you
will
find
any
element
of
disrespect.
The
protagonist
of
the
film
is
a
Sardar,
so
the
film
will
showcase
a
very
positive
projection
of
the
community.
If
you
could
just
wait
for
the
release
and
then
come
up
with
your
comments
and
opinion.
Trust
me,
we
all
will
be
proud
of
the
film," Ajay
said.
The
Punjab
and
Haryana
High
Court
advocate
Navkiran
Singh
had
also
issued
a
legal
notice
in
this
regard
to
the
makers
of
the
film
on
August
16
and
had
asked
them
to
delete
the
objectionable
portion
in
the
movie.
The
film,
directed
by
Ashwini
Dhir
and
starring
Sonakshi
Sinha,
Sanjay
Dutt,
Juhi
Chawla,
among
others,
releases
on
November
13.
