be
given
the
maiden
National
Yash
Chopra
Memorial
Award.
Each
year
the
award
will
be
given
to
an
outstanding
film
personality.
The
award
is
instituted
by
Reddy-led
TSR
Foundation.
Industrialist-politician
T
Subbarami
Reddy,
producer
of
Hindi
movies
like
Vijay,
Chandni
and
Lamhe,
announced
the
award
in
memory
of
late
filmmaker
Yash
Chopra.
The
legendary
singer
will
be
the
first
person
to
receive
this
award
in
Yash
Chopra's
memory.
"In
the
first
year
we
are
giving
this
to
Lata
Mangeshkar
for
her
immense
contribution
to
cinema.
She
was
very
close
to
Yashji
and
she
has
sung
for
almost
all
his
films," said
Subbarami
Reddy,
a
Congress
leader.
"The
award
commemorates
Yash
Chopra's
contribution
to
cinema.
We
were
very
close
friends.
He
was
a
very
good
human
being
and
a
talented
filmmaker,"
he
added.
The
award
ceremony
is
likely
to
take
place
on
October
21
every
year
because
the
Bollywood
icon
died
on
the
same
day
in
2012.
There
will
be
a
distinguished
jury
consisting
of
Hindi
film
personalities
including
Hema
Malini,
Simi
Garewal
and
Anil
Kapoor
selected
the
winner.
As
a
jury
member,
Hema
Malini
spoke
highly
of
Yash
Chopra.
She
said
that
she
felt
lucky
to
have
been
directed
by
Chopra
in
four
films.
She
also
mentioned
that
the
legendary
directory
portrayed
heroines
beautifully
in
his
films.
