Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt who has been serving his time in the Yerawada prison is now granted a 2 weeks furlough period for health reasons. He got this permission because he has a treatment for his leg. This is a leave of absence from the prison granted to the actor by the jail authorities. The actor has now reached Mumbai and says that he wants to spend time with his family.
The jail authorities have confirmed that this is not a parole as the Divisional Comissioner is away from the country. So this is clearly just a furlough. Sanjay Dutt is in the Yerawada jail because he is serving a 42-month sentence for his role in the 1993 Mumbai blasts.
In the recent past, we saw a few pictures of the 54-year-old actor in the jail as he was snapped when he was practicing a play. We had also heard that Sanjay will be performing for the famous 'Lungi dance' to raise funds for the jail. However, the authorities have now canceled the play and the performances due to security issues and other matters.
Sanjay, who has been convicted for possessing illegal arms supplied by perpetrators during the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts had earlier applied for a 30-day parole but this had been rejected by the Pune Police. The 14-day old parole he has got now is strictly for his health reasons. In legal terms this is called a furlough and not a parole as it has not been granted by the court but by the jail authorities.
