Finally,
our
epic
Mahabharata
gets
a
Bollywood
version.
It's
not
easy
to
translate
an
epic
to
the
film
medium
and
many
in
B'wood
has
tried
and
failed
doing
it
before.
Once
Maniratnam
and
Bobby
Bedi
almost
started
casting
for
their
movie,
based
on
Mahabharata
but
somehow
the
plan
collapsed.
But
now
Disney
India
has
announced,
Mahabharata,
with
Abhishek
Kapoor
as
the
director.
Abhishek
is
currently
making
a
film
named
Fitoor
with
Katrina
Kaif
and
Aditya
Roy
Kapoor
in
the
lead.
He
will
start
co-ordinating
the
pre-production
stage
of
Mahabharata
after
completing
Fitoor.
Abhishek
plans
to
do
the
film
with
live
action
technology,
based
on
writer
Ashok
Banker's
script.
Ashok
Banker
is
the
author
of
eight-volume
Ramayana
series.
When
quizzed
about
his
reason
for
choosing
such
a
mega
project,
he
answered
that
it
is
Bhagwad
Gita
of
Mahabharata
that
inspired
him
to
take
up
the
project.
He
revealed,
"There
was
a
phase
in
my
life
when
I
was
going
through
hell.
It
was
the
spiritual
solace
I
got
from
the
Bhagwad
Gita
which
gave
me
the
courage
to
carry
on.
It's
all
about
going
out
there
and
making
the
impossible
possible"
Abhishek
Kapoor,
who
did
landmark
films
such
as
Rock
On
and
Kai
Po
Che,
gets
philosophical
while
talking
about
Mahabharata,
"Unless
we
attempt
it,
we
will
never
know
if
we
are
capable
of
making
it.
Look
at
what
the
West
has
achieved.
They
routinely
make
films
on
such
a
lavish
scale
and
with
every
new
film
break
the
current
record.
My
idea
is
to
make
the
Mahabharata
on
the
same
scale
as
Peter
Jackson's
Lord
of
the
Rings
series."
