Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin in a recent interview made a shocking revelation that she was sexually abused during her childhood.
"The reason you haven't heard about it is that I don't like to talk about it. For me, it's not a one day headline; it's something that's a reality that I have lived with for a long time. Many of us have gone through it and most of the people that I know, especially close friends of mine who are women, have gone through some form of child sexual abuse (CSA)," said Kalki
The Dev D actress, Kalki Koechlin who also has been deeply associated with women related issues further added, "I don't think public platform is the only way to talk about CSA. I think sometimes it's important to speak about it, break the silence; other times it's important to have a place to go where you can trust somebody whether it be a psychiatrist, a family member or an organisation which helps when you talk about these things. The problem is we don't have these trusted areas to go."
Addressing all those who become victim to any kind of sexual abuse, Kalki urged them to speak up but also hinted on some probable hazards that need to be taken care of. "The problem about talking about it in public is that there is a danger of it becoming a shocking headline and somebody who has gone through CSA is not a headline; that's a reality that they have lived with all of their life," asserted the actress.
Kalki whose latest film was Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is one of those Bollywood celebrities who have been standing strong against violence against women, rapes and molestation. Kalki was married to film director Anurag Kashyap who happened to be the director of Dev D but later the couple separate for some personal issues.
Kalki is currently busy with her upcoming movie Happy Ending.
