It
can
now
be
officially
confirmed
that
in
the
remake
of
the
upcoming
movie
Khoobsurat,
Kirron
Kher
would
be
essaying
the
role
played
by
Rekha
in
the
Hrishikesh
Mukherjee-helmed
original
flick
by
the
same
title.
And
Sonam
Kapoor
would
enact
the
daughter's
role.
It
is
being
learnt
that
when
Shashank
Ghosh
re-scripted
the
newer
version
keeping
Sonam
in
mind,
it
seemed
that
Rekha's
portrayal
in
the
older
original
film
looked
obsolete
and
not
in
sync
with
the
modern
day.
But,
Sonam's
father
and
veteran
Bollywood
actor
Anil
Kapoor
was
keen
to
preserve
the
original
role,
since
he
regarded
the
reputed
late
filmmaker
Hrishikesh
very
highly.
Actually,
the
initial
plan
was
to
draft
in
actress
Rekha
herself
to
play
the
character
in
the
remake
as
well,
just
as
she
had
done
in
the
ace
director's
original.
But
when
Sonam's
younger
sister
and
the
film's
producer
Rhea
Kapoor
put
forth
the
proposal
to
Rekha
to
play
the
mother's
role,
the
senior
actress
categorically
rejected
it.
Following
Rekha's
refusal,
the
role
has
now
come
forward
to
Kirron
Kher
and
the
latter
has
wholeheartedly
agreed
to
play
the
character
of
Sonam's
mother.
When
Sonam
was
asked
to
delve
on
Kirron's
character
in
Khoobsurat,
all
she
was
willing
to
disclose
was
that
the
veteran
actress
would
play
the
role
of
Manju,
the
name
of
the
character
played
by
Rekha
in
the
earlier
version.
