Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday condoled the death of cinema and theatre veteran Zohra Sehgal, calling her "prolific and full of life".
"Prolific & full of life, Zohra Sehgal made a mark through her acting, which is admired across generations. Saddened on her demise," Modi tweeted.
Zohra was 102. She breathed her last here following a cardiac arrest 4.30 p.m. Thursday, a family member said. A heart patient, she was admitted to the Max Hospital in south Delhi's Saket area after being diagnosed with pneumonia Wednesday.
The actress, known for her vivacious and effervescent nature, featured in movies like Bhaji on the Beach (1992), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Bend It Like Beckham (2002), Dil Se... (1998) and Cheeni Kum (2007). Kiran, Zohra's daughter is herself an Odissi dancer, she expressed grief that during her mother's dying days, she could not even get the government flat she has asked for.
Kiran told, "She was always so full of life and energy. I am in very different state of mind right now...But, what is more tragic is that during her dying days, she could not even get the government flat she had asked for." The entire nation, especially Bollywood is mourning the sad demise of actress Zohra Sehgal.
