Pics: Amitabh Bachchan Conferred With Padma Vibhushan By Pranab Mukherjee

President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday conferred Padma Vibhushan on Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan. His family, Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Shwetha Bachchan Nanda and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were also present at the event.

Padma Vibushan was also conferred on Malur Ramaswamy Srinivasan for his work in science and engineering and jurist K.K. Venugopal for public affairs.

The awards were conferred at a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan, and was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several union ministers. Noted Assamese film director Jahnu Barua was awarded the Padma Bhushan along with Mr Bachchan.

The awards were announced on the eve of this year's Republic Day. Amitabh Bachchan's grand daughter, Navya Naveli Nanda was also seen cheering for her grandpa along with the rest of the family.

Apart from Padma Vibhushan, the president conferred awards in other categories of Padma awards, namely Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. Amitabh had received the Padma Shri in 1984 and the Padma Bhushan in 2001.

His colleague, Dilip Kumar was has been unwell for months and so was unable to collect his Padma Vibhushan in person. Big B took to Twitter, "@Amirmurt @TheDilipKumar he is unwell and shall not be there to receive his award ... sad."
