Republic
Day
is
around
the
corner
and
so
is
Akshay
Kumar
starrer,
Airlift.
The
movie,
is
based
on
a
real
life
incident
which
occurred
during
the
Iraq-Kuwait
war
during
the
year
1990.
Director
Raja
Menon,
worked
for
years
on
the
script
and
had
an
extensive
research
on
the
subject.
When
the
script
was
ready,
a
lot
of
producers
asked
Raja
Menon,
to
make
Airlift
as
a
documentary
instead,
which
is
of
course
disappointing.
Akshay
Kumar,
was
quoted
as
saying,
"Director
Raja
Krishna
Menon
was
working
on
this
script
for
four
years.
He
has
been
closely
associated
with
many
of
those
people
who
were
stranded
in
that
situation.
It
has
been
a
tremendous
effort
of
my
director
to
present
the
facts
onscreen.
But
let
me
tell
you
this...
when
he
approached
several
producers
with
the
script,
they
suggested
him
to
make
it
into
documentary."
Akshay
Kumar
says,
every
Indian
must
watch
Airlift
and
feel
proud
of
being
an
Indian,
"This
evacuation
is
such
a
big
fact
for
our
country,
but
the
kind
of
response
the
director
got
of
making
a
documentary,
it
was
upsetting.
I
want
that
each
and
every
Indian
must
watch
this
film
Airlift,
and
feel
proud
of
being
an
Indian."
Airlift,
starring
Akshay
Kumar
and
Nimrat
Kaur,
is
all
set
to
hit
the
theatres
on
January
22,
2016.
