Katrina Kaif Talks About Marital Rape!
Katrina Kaif talks tough against marital rape at the WeUnite conference which marks UN Women’s partnership with the IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Katrina Kaif spoke about a topic which a lot of Bollywood actresses shy away from, which is marital rape. Stats show that a lot of married women keep mum about the issue and the law is totally toothless when it comes to marital rape. The actress was at the WeUnite conference recently which marks UN Women's partnership with the IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry. She spoke against marital rape and made some pertinent points. She said,
"I
know
of
educated
women,
who
remain
silent
in
the
face
of
violence,
because
they
are
afraid
to
confront
societal
norms
and
have
fingers
pointed
in
their
direction.
Especially
when
the
majority
of
our
society
fails
to
recognise
martial
rape
as
a
crime."
Katrina Kaif further commented, "I would urge more women to speak up. It is not okay to feel inferior or weak, because we are not the weaker sex by any stretch of imagination. On a daily basis there are shocking stories about the violent crimes made against women. Yet, I can only imagine how many other crimes against women in India go unreported."
On the work front, Katrina Kaif is shooting for the upcoming film Jagga Jasoos and is paired alongside her ex-flame Ranbir Kapoor. The film has been in the pipeline since a few years and the film-makers have confirmed that it will hit the theatres in 2017.
