Shahid Kapoor starrer Udta Punjab and the Censor Board are at loggerheads, as the CBFC has ordered 89 cuts along with dropping the name 'Punjab' from the title of the film.
Irked by the Censor Board's decision, producer Anurag Kashyap has tweeted to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi to look into the matter. However, Anurag Kashyap's tweet to the PM was rather short and plain. He wrote, "@narendramodi UDTA Punjab".
Now will the PM of India, Narendra Modi reply to Anurag Kashyap's tweet? For that we will have to wait and watch!
However, coming back to the Udta Punjab vs CBFC issue, the board had shown no mercy to the film and had initially ordered 40 cuts. When the film-makers took the matter up to the revising committee, the decision backfired and now the Censor Board has rained hell on the film by ordering 89 cuts.
An angry Anurag Kashyap, took to Twitter by saying, "There is no film more honest than UDTA PUNJAB .. And any person or party opposing it is actually GUILTY of promoting drugs". Anurag Kashyap, had previously revealed that a single cut in the movie will take away the entire essence of the film.
Karan Johar, also urged film-makers to come together and protest against the CBFC. He tweeted, "#UdtaPunjab speaks of the reality of our times....censoring reality amounts to delusion.....the fraternity has to stand by what's right!!".
