Since they play mutually hostile characters, they thought it best to avoid being seen together in public. Reports of the two parting ways in real life are a mere reflection of the distance they are meant to keep in their on-screen roles," source close to the couple had reported the leading daily.

For the first time, Deepika & Ranveer worked together was Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film, Ram Leela, then their second collaboration with the director was Bajirao Mastani and Padmavati is their third collaboration!

"It is difficult as an actor to work with someone you have worked for so long. It's challenging for both the director and actor to bring something new to the table every time they come together," said Deepika, when asked about working with Mr Bhansali.

"Even when he worked with Ranveerin Ram Leela and Bajirao Mastani, it was a similar feeling and these films are classic examples. We hope we are able to deliver something different for the audience this time again with 'Padmavati'," had added Deepika.

"Sanjay Leela Bhansali brings out the best in me as an actor. Working on 'Padmavati' with him brings out a creatively- enriching feeling in me... The way he pushes you, challenges you... That's what drives me to do his films," had mentioned Deepika.
On a related note, the film also casts Shahid Kapoor in the lead role, who portrays the character of Raja Rawal Ratan Singh, the husband of Rani Padmavati (played by Deepika Padukone).
