As 12th Fail establishes itself as a box office success, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, at the age of 71, becomes the second prominent Indian filmmaker to deliver a hit after the age of 70.

It's often said that most successful mainstream Hindi filmmakers struggle to maintain their success after a certain age as their storytelling becomes dated and they lose touch with the ever-evolving audience. However, Yash Chopra was the exception, continuing to deliver hits and staying relevant even in his 70s.

Now, Vidhu Vinod Chopra has joined this elite group, with his last box-office success dating back to Mission Kashmir in the year 2000. Over the past 23 years, he has directed three films - Eklavya (2007), Broken Horses (2015), and Shikara (2020). Unfortunately, all these films failed to perform well at the box office.

While Yash Chopra and Vidhu Vinod Chopra are the only two mainstream Hindi filmmakers to deliver a hit after the age of 70, it's worth noting that Shyam Benegal, the renowned director of parallel cinema, achieved box office success at the age of 73 with Welcome To Sajjanpur in 2008.
