ABCD 2 Critics Movie Review: No Story But Awesome 3D Effects

ABCD 2, the sequel to ABCD-Any Body Can Dance had been glorified like hell by the cast and crew, consisting of Remo D'Souza, Varun Dhawan, Prabhudeva, and Shraddha Kapoor.

Believing them to be truthful, the youth bunked college and ran to watch the first day first show in theatres, giving the movie an amazing occupancy rate on the opening day. Well, thank God they weren't in for that bad a show at least, there were some good aspects in the movie that covered up the flaws.

Plot:

The movie starts off with a reality show where Suresh (Varun Dhawan) and Vinnie's (Shraddha Kapoor) dance troupe is alleged of copying International Philippines group. But just before this accusation is made, an illuminati dance performance is shown which will blow your mind with the 3D effects.

Now coming back to the plot, Suresh and team keeps getting humiliated by public and so he comes up with a plan that if they manage to win the World Hip Hop Dance competition then they can gain back their self respect. Exactly at this juncture in the story, Vishnu Sir (Prabhudeva) walks into the club where Suresh works and the way he dances leaves the latter mesmerized.

He convinces Vishnu Sir to choreograph the team and hold auditions to select new dancers, this is when Dharmesh and Vinod enter and impress you with their dance performances. The team head to Bengaluru where they win the qualifying round, but what nobody knows is that, it was Vishnu Sir who had searched for them and not the other way around.

With an intention to meet his long lost son, Vishnu Sir master plans this whole trip. So what happens to the dance troupe when their so called guru flees the scene with all their money?

How will they participate in the competition? How will they survive in Las Vegas? To know the answers you will have to watch the movie.

Performances:

Coming to the performances, there is no doubt that the entire case gave spell binding dance performances the Indian audience will ever see. A lot of Lord Ganpathi and patriotism themes do make it a little over dramatic, but strangely when it comes to dance, it gives you a kick. Varun and Shraddha have given better acting performances in other movies, moreover with the lack of story you can't expect much from them either. Prabhudeva was the only actor who got scope of acting and he did a good job at it too.

Technicalities:

Direction was pretty good when it came to the dance performances, they were simply a visual treat. Story was majorly lacking but all that is made up for with some kick ass dance performances and some great comic timing shown by Prabhudeva, Dhramesh and Raghav alias Cockroach. In short you can call it a desi version of Step Up.

Verdict:

The movie may lack story, but the two and a half hours you spend in the theatre will be totally worth it, as you get to have some great laughs during comedy scenes, get thrilled during dance performances and boy oh boy, the 3D effect wins it all. ABCD 2 makes for a great weekend watch.
