Wonder what is happening with the Bollywood filmmakers these days who are so bent upon churning a new story out of a stale old concept that has been dead for ages.
Dolly Ki Doli resembles Dawaat-E-Ishq's plot, the lead actress gets dumped by their respective love interest and so they turn into this revenge seeking women who con men for money.
While Parineeti Chopra cons one person and ends up falling in love again, Sonam Kapoor goes on a conning spree where she targets men from every caste and creed possible, donning different avatars of Indian women to con the man in love with her.
Cast: Sonam Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma
Director: Abhishek Dogra
Dolly (Sonam Kapoor) is an attractive woman who gets dumped by her boyfriend and this particular incident affects her so much that she ends up becoming a con woman with a fake family. The gang hunts for prospective grooms who are rich and gullible, Sonam then through different ways ensures of them falling head over heels in love with her. On the night of the marriage she serves a glass of drugged milk to all the family members and once they doze of, Sonam and her fake family sweep the house clean of money, jewelry and wealth.
Pulkit Samrat plays the role of a cop, Robin Singh who is out to catch this convict and Rajkummar Rao plays the role of a groom, Sonu Sarawat who truly loves Dolly. Varun Sharma is seen in his Fukrey character a drooling horny guy, Manoj Singh Chadda who just wants to sleep with the girl.
Débutante Abhishek Dogra has done a decent job considering this is his first film. The dialogues and screenplay by Umashankar Singh and Abhishek Dogra are witty and funny but only to a limit. As viewers are not so dumb that we will believe everything that they show. Songs are also OK and are not really highlights of the film.
Sonam Kapoor has done a decent job but nothing special or a performance worthy of an award. Rajkummar Rao is the hero of the film, he may be appearing in a small role but his performance is the one that stands out. Pulkit Samrat has also done an okay job and nothing more, while Varun Sharma make you laugh like crazy.
In comparison to Baby, you can give Dolly Ki Doli a miss as you'll find it to be a big waste of time and money. But if Baby tickets are booked then Dolly Ki Doli will keep you entertained for few minutes.

#DollyKiDoli may show three male leads on its poster, but there's a fourth - Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub - and he's superb, as always.
