Shiney Ahuja's bollywood venture starts with the debut film Hazaaron Khwahishein Aisi (2003). His role in Father William's Sins/Paap (2005) has raised much trepidation. He didn't receive much claim till the release of Karam (2005) opposite John Abraham. Tarun Haksar's Kal: Yesterday and tomorrow (2005) did not give much prospect for this talented actor. However his role in Gangster (2006), opposite Emraan Hashmi got him higher to the starhood that he truly deserves. He won the Filmfare Best Debut Award in this movie. The success and awards did not alter Shiney Ahuja and he was most willing to appear in the guest role in Suraj Ahuja's Fanaa (2006). The surprise success of Anurag Basu's Gangster and the host of awards for Hazaaron Khwahishein Aisi typecasted Shiney Ahuja for serious and intense roles. However he doesn't constrain himself for these typical roles and takes a well turn in Mahesh Bhatt's Woh Lamhe (2006) and Tanuja Chandra's Zindagi Rocks (2006). These recently released movies have already received a great deal of critical applause for his brilliant performance.
In Mahesh Bhatt's Woh Lamhe he essays the role based on Mahesh Bhatt's real life. The film has been marketed as the portrayal of the Parveen Babi's personal relationship with Mahesh Bhatt and the trauma of this schizophrenic actress had to undergo through her life. The story has raised many voices against it, since Parveen Babi is no more to defend her. However, the issues regarding the publicity of the film as the prerogative of the producer and Shiney Ahuja does full justice to the role he has assigned to.
In Tanuja Chandra's Zindagi Rocks, Shiney Ahuja plays a more realistic role. He is an introvertish, workaholic doctor who falls in love with a woman, totally opposite to him. He acts in the lead role against Sushmita sen in this movie. Even though the entire focus of the movie seems to be on Sushmita, his authentic acting will grab the attention of the spectators. His true commitment to the character is revealed while he weeps without glycerin in Zindagi Rocks.
Shiney Ahuja's roles have compromised with a wide variety of characterizations. His passion for acting can be assessed from the variety of characters he selects. He is shrewd, money minded extrovert person in Hazaaron Khwahishein Aisi. In Gangster, he plays the title role, who had been forced by circumstances to become a gangster. The weight of problems makes the gangster to go to his own shell. Kal: Yesterday and tomorrow shows Shiney Ahuja in the role of a romantic hero as well. In all these he has proved his ability to tackle the most complex characterization with ease. His forth-coming movies are Mejoo Khan's Four and Metro.
It can be assumed that slowly and steadily Shiney is carving his own alcove into the big league in Bollywood.
