Jennifer Lynn Lopez Popularly nicknamed J.Lo was born on July 24, 1969 in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx. Her father, David, was a computer technician. Her mother, Guadalupe, taught kindergarten. Jennifer is the middle of three daughters. Jennifer and her two sisters, Leslie (now a housewife and opera singer) and Lynda (a DJ, VJ and entertainment reporter), grew up in a small apartment. To keep the kids off the streets, Guadalupe would encourage them to put on little performances in the front room, singing and dancing.

In 1990, she won a national competition and earned a spot dancing on the popular Fox comedy television series, "In Living Color," as one of the "Fly Girls." Lopez's first feature film was the critically acclaimed My Family.

Jennifer Lopez was then cast as Latin singer Selena Quintanilla in the biopic, Selena. Her performance led to her role opposite George Clooney in the excellent film, 'Out of Sight' and she became the highest paid Latin actress in history.

The popularity of the multi-talented Lopez reached new heights in early 2001, when her album, J. Lo debuted at No. 1 on the pop charts, while her film, the romantic comedy 'The Wedding Planner', shot to the top spot at the box office in its first week of release. In December 2002, she performed another one-two punch with the release of the record 'This Is Me... Then' and a starring role in the comedy 'Maid in Manhattan', which was a box office hit, if not a critical one. In 2003, she co-starred with Ben Affleck in the box office bomb,'Gigli'.Other projects included "Jersey Girl" and 'An Unfinished Life', in which she played a single mom taken in by her father-in-law played by Robert Redford. She also starred opposite Richard Gere in 'Shall We Dance?', a remake of the top-grossing Japanese flick. Another movie of hers, Monster-in-law, was a success.

J-Lo's commercial success as a singer began in 1999 with the album 'On the 6'. Jennifer Lopez followed up with 'Waiting For Tonight', which featured a duet with the man who was to become her future husband, Marc Anthony. By 2005 J-Lo had sold over 35 million records worldwide. Jennifer Lopez has regularly topped magazine polls as the world's sexiest woman, Her marriage to Marc Anthony is her third: she was married to waiter Ojani Noa from 1997-98 and to dancer Cris Judd from 2001-02.

Jennifer Lopez has interests outside her films and music, including a clothing range and a couple of perfumes. Lopez came 24th in the Forbes list of the most powerful celebrities 2005 .
