Shahrukh Khan: Acting The Kingly Way

Sharukh, with his romantic look, fast speech, soulful eyes, dimpled cheeks, dynamic character and above all with his hellacious talent, rules over the Bollywood film industry and the minds of millions of fans as a real king... yes.. he is the King Khan as his name Shahrukh means 'King'. Shahrukh is the most salable actor in the film industry, whether it be crazy fans or canny film makers, his name it self is a guarantee. The release of all his films are dreamlike for his fans. Sharukh believes that 'acting is making unbelievable believable' and always says with a proud confidence that 'I'm the best'. He feels he become a better actor after acting in his two films which are also close to his heart... Dil Se and Kal Ho Naa Ho.

Shahrukh the future star was born on on November 2nd 1965 in New Delhi, India to a Muslim family. His parents named him Shahrukh which means 'The King' unaware of the fact that he is born to be a King of millions of minds. Shahrukh did his schooling at St. Columbus and attended Hansraj College. After graduating, Shahrukh did a Masters in Mass Communication. Once he completed his studies he joined Barry John's theater group and ran a restaurant in Delhi.

Sharukh hit the acting scene for the first time by acting in TV serials. His first break was 'Dil Dariya". He acted the role Abhimanyu in the tele-serial Fauji, followed by Circus which portrayed the life of circus performers. It was actress Hema Malini who spotted the caliber of Khan and signed him for his debut movie Deewana which made a big impact on the big screen. The films Baazigar and Darr, in which he acted two successive negative roles as a paranoid lover, made Shahrukh a star overnight.

It was in 1995 he was crowned the King of Bollywood with the biggest hit Bollywood has ever witnessed, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which firmly positioned him as the most successful Bollywood actor. Adding him the title of a quintessential romantic hero, the films followed were all successful love stories. He is known to share a screen chemistry with all the heroins.

After DDLJ there came another colossal hit, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Karan Johar, the director of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, associated with Shahrukh to produce few more bigger hits like Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and Kal Ho Naa Ho. Bollywood has witnessed Shahrukh working with all the big directors in the country and acting historical roles like that in Ashoka to that of a doomed hero like in Devdas. The films like Main Hoon Na, Swades, Paheli, Dil To Pagal Hai, Mohabbatein, Don, and the latest 'Chak De India' made his fame flagged to the sky.

King Khan has won many prestigious awards in his career. The main recognitions include, Filmfare Best Actor Award for Baazigar (1993), Filmfare Best Villain - Anjaam (1994), Filmfare Best Actor Award for Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge (1996), Filmfare Best Actor Award for Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Filmfare Best Actor Award for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai(1998), Filmfare Best Actor Award for Mohabbatein(2000), Filmfare Best Actor Award for Devdas (2002), Filmfare Best Actor Award for Swades (2004), Four Zee Cine Awards, Three IIFA Awards, Four People's Choice Movie Awards. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2005.

Sharukh is married to his college time girlfriend Gauri Chibba and stay in Mumbai with their two children, Aryan and Suhana. In his personal life he is very simple and frank.

Shahrukh is also a film producer as he owns two production houses, the 'Dreams unlimited with co-star Juhi Chawla and director Aziz Mirza, and the ' Red Chillies Entertainment'. These productions houses produced a number of hit films. One of his productions, Paheli, which was India's official entry to the 2005 Oscars. A noted British filmmaker, Nasreen Munni has produced a two-part documentary on Shahrukh, "The Inner and Outer World of Shah Rukh Khan".

Shahrukh has a superb drive to top in anything he does and says he is never satisfied with whatever achievements he has made. He is too full of zest to be defeated and live quietly. Even if he ceases to be a super star, this talented personality is sure to explore other avenues to succeed. He will continue to be there on the top.
