Sonam Kapoor - Bollywood's Tall Princess

By By: Sunil Noronha

While her debut film may have have hit Bollywood with a bang, she proved herself to be worthy of the fame that her father had and has even now. She is smart, beautiful, graceful and above has learnt enough from her family folk in the industry to say the right things and not put her foot in the wrong places.

Sonam Kapoor was born on the 9th of June, 1985 to ace actor and recently turned producer Anil Kapoor. The actress studied in her early years in Arya Vidya Mandir-Juhu, Mumbai. Sonam, who is fluent in Hindi, Punjabi and English, was never the shy type. She was always upfront about her intention to be a showbiz girl as her dream grew on her. She took steps very early in her career to spruce her self for a successful acting career. She started of with Kathak classes which

she took for a long period of 12 years. She polished her skills with a two year course in theatre which she took in Singapore. She added to her credits a degree majoring in Political Science and Economics from the University Of Mumbai along with a good knowledge of classical and Latin dance forms

After seeing to it that she had the most pre preparation that she could, she got her first gig in the business assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali with his 2005 release Black. She seemed to have impressed her boss Sanjay Leela Bhansali to have him offer her a role in his next film. But it wasn't all a cake walk for Sonam. She had to shed almost 30 pounds to come to scale with the role that Bhansali wanted to cast her in, which she did with the help of her ex-model mom Sunita Kapoor. Once those pounds fell, she was one hell of a Bollywood beauty standing close to 5' 9".

After having debuted in a film that will be remembered from many reasons - negative&positive, she wowed the world and was no bones about it. Now she is shooting for her next film Dilli 6- which is directed by another great director Rakesh Omprakash Mehra of Rang de Basanti fame. She will be sharing space in the film with stars like Abhishek Bachan and veterans like Om Puri.

One thing striking about this girl is that she has learnt not to step into that will bring her credit for the wrong reasons. Maybe this is a result of her being born in a family of Bollywood veterans . She already won awards fro her debut p- the Star Screen Jodi No. 1 award, Star Screen most promising newcomer award and the Stardust Superstar of Tomorrow award.
