Aditya bhattacharya Biography

Aditya Bhattacharya is an independent writer/director/producer based between Rome and Mumbai. He is the grandson of Bimal Roy, one of the pioneers of Indian cinema, and the son of Basu Bhattacharya, a noted independent film maker. Earlier, Aditya was both an actor and an acclaimed photojournalist whose work has been featured in many leading Indian publications.

He set up DeviEnt in Mumbai, to develop projects both for himself and others. Called "one of Bollywood's brightest directorial stars" by Screen International Magazine, he worked on 'KalaGhoda' (Black Horse) a Mumbai based adaptation of Johnny To's PTU and on Bombay's Most Wanted, which was produced by ASP White.

Aditya is also turning producer with Gyan Correa's debut feature "End Of The Road" and "Dhalta Sooraj" (The Setting Sun") which was co-written by Aditya with frequent collaborator, Naman Ramachandran, slated to be directed by Abhijit Chaudhuri.

His first feature Raakh (1988) was Aamir Khan's first starring role and the first Hindi feature for cinematographer Santosh Sivan and editor Sreekar Prasad. Senso Unico (2000) his second feature is the only Italian film ever made by an Indian. Aditya is a founding member of the Indian Independent Filmmakers.

He has served on the Entertainment Committee of the Confederation of Indian Industries and on the Script committee of the National Film Development Corporation. He has been an advisor to the Italian Culture Ministry and on the Juries of the Arcipelago Festival in Rome and on the 50th anniversary Indian Documentary Producer's Association awards.

He has earlier been the Head of international Business for Varma Corp and International Business consultant for Mid-day Multimedia. Aditya is a partner with Madhu Mantena (ex-Head of International for Adlabs Films & earlier C.O.O of Varma Corp) in Big Bang Pictures and earlier was a director in Rossellini & Associates, which brought Life is Beautiful and subsequently 2 other Miramax classics Chocolat and A Hard Day's Night to India.

Aditya's third feature film was Dubai Return, starring Irrfan Khan (The Warrior, The Namesake, A Mighty Heart).
