Ashish Vidhyarthi Biography

Ashish Vidyarthi is a National Film Award winning actor in India. He has acted in all the regional film industries. He is the son of renowned kathak dancer Reba Vidyarthi. His father is a Malayali theatre personality, Govind Vidyarthi. Even though he typically acts in Hindi movies, he has acted in several South Indian hit films, such as Ghilli in Tamil, CID Moosa in Malayalam, Pokiri in Telugu and Bombaiyer Bombete in Bengali. He acted in a serial 'Vaaris' as an autocratic father.

Early Life

Born in Tellicherry in Kerala in 1962 to Reba and Govind Vidyarthi, Vidyarthi moved to Delhi in 1969 and joined the Delhi Public School where he won many best actor cups for Drama and Skits. He passed his Class XII exams in 1980 after which he attended S.V. College and did his B.A in History.

He began acting in minor roles and got his break in an S.V. Paranjpe serial. He went on to act in a number of minor serials in regional languages and in major Hindi serials in the 90's, e.g., Ghutan.

Acting Career

Vidyarthi's film career began with a supporting role in the Kannada Film Anand with Shivraj Kumar. He also starred with Suresh Gopi in Hijack (1991). His break in Hindi films came with Naajayaaz and Baazi. He played many villainous roles. However, he played the roles of brash and crass villians spewing venom rather than classy Pankaj Kapur type villians who were becoming the name of the game in Bollywood.

As a result, most of his films were not top of the line and were more of standard commercial masala fare. He did have some hits like Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. He also acted in supporting or positive roles in some films such as Ek Rishta or a comical villian in Jodi No.1 and Haseena Maan Jayegi.

As film offers dried up in Mumbai, offers started pouring in from South India. He soon played the role of a villian in films like C.I.D Moosa with Malayali Superstar Dileep, Baba as Ippo Ramasami with Rajnikanth, Ghilli and Azhagiya Tamil Magan with Joseph Vijay, and Pokkiri and Athidhi in Telegu with Prince Mahesh Babu.

He was among the # 1 Villians in South India along with fellow villian Mukhesh Rishi and Rahul Dev and had a very good career. He has acted with every major actor in all the South Indian Industries in over 40 films.
