Elizabeth Taylor

Biography:  Dame Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor was an American actress born on 27 February 1932 in London, England. Elizabeth was the second child of Francis Lenn Taylor and Sara Viola Warmbrodt. She was the dual citizen of United Kingdom and the United States as she was born in British soil and her parents were American. At the age of three Taylor began taking ballet lessons with Vaccani. She had married eight times to seven husbands - Conrad "Nicky" Hilton (1950 – 1951), Michael Wilding (1952 – 1957) , Michael Todd (1957 – 1958), Eddie Fisher (1959 – 1964), Richard Burton (1964 – 1974), Richard Burton (1975 – 1976), John Warner (1976 – 1982), Larry Fortensky (1991 – 1996) Through Hedda Hopper, the Taylors were introduced to Andrea Berens, who was the chairman and major stockholder of Universal Pictures in Hollywood. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer took intreste in the British Youngster, where she failed in the audition with producer John Considine. Then she signed a six month renewable contract with Universal Pictures on 18 September 1941 for $100 per week. Elizabeth was having a lot of physical health problems in her life. In 2004 she was suffering from congestive heart failure, and in 2009 she underwent cardiac surgery to replace a leaky valve. Then in February 2011 she was admitted into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment as some new symptoms which were related to congestive heart failure was showned. Elizabeth died on 23 March, 2011 at the age of 79. Career Elizabeth first starred at the age of nine in There's One Born Every Minute, which was the only film with Universal Pictures. Within the six month after she signed with Universal, Edward Muhl reviewed her contract and Muhl met with Elizabeth's agent, Myron Selznick. Muhl challenged that "She can't sing, she can't dance, she can't perform. What's more, her mother has to be one of the most unbearable women it has been my displeasure to meet." Then Universal cancelled the contract with Elizabeth. Then Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer signed Taylor to $100 a week for three month to appear as "Priscilla" in the film Lassie Come Home. The performance in the film Lassie Come Home, gave Tylor a seven year contract at $100 per week with MGM but increasing at regular intervals until it reached a hefty $750 during the seventh year. Her first assignment under her new contract at MGM was a loan out to 20th Century Fox for a film Jane Eyre in year 1944. In that period she returned to England to appear in another film for MGM, The White Cliffs of Dover in year 1944. Then she did another film with MGM, National Velvet for which she said it "the most exciting film" she had ever made. National Velvet grossed over US $4 million at box office which gave Elizabeth a new long term contract of $30,000 per year. She then made another film Courage of Lassie. The success gave her another contract of $750 per week, her mother $250, as well as a $1,500 bonus. Then she in some films like Life With Father in year 1947, Cynthia Bishop in Cynthia in year 1947, Carol Pringle in A Date with Judy in year 1948 and Susan Prackett in Julia Misbehaves in year 1948 and all proved to be successful. Then she did another film Little Women in year 1949 was her last adolescent role. Then in year 1948, she went aboard to England where she filmmed Conspirator, which was her first adult role. It got flop at box office. Then in year 1950 she starred in film The Big Hangover which was her first film under her new salary of $2000 per week. Again the film failed on box office. In year 1950 she starred in Father of the Bride which was the first success in an adult role. The in year 1951 the sequel came Father;s Little Dividend. This film also went well on box office. Then she was seen in film George Stevens A Plave in the Sun. After this film Elizabeth was hailed for her performance. Elizabeth wanted to play lead roles in The Barefoot Contessa and I'll Cry Tomorrow, but MGM continued to restrict her to make a cameo as herself in film Callaway Went Thataway in year 1951, Love Is Better Than Ever in year 1952, Ivanhoe in year 1952, The Girl Who Had Everything in year 1953 and Beau Brummel in year 1954 which was somewhat mindless and forgettable. Then she wanted to play the role of Lady Rowena in Ivanhoe, but was given the role of Rebecca. When she got pregnant with her first child, MGM forced her through The Girl Who Had Evertyhing to get one more film out of her before she became too heavily pregnant. Then she did a film Rhapsody in year 1954 which didnt went well on box office. Then she starred in film The Last Time I Saw Paris in year 1954 which was a little better than her previous pictures. In year 1956, she starred in film Giant for which she was nominated for Academy Award for Best Actress. Then for four year she won the Academy Award for Best Actress dor films Raintree County in year 1957, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in year 1958, Suddenly, Last Summer in year 1959, Butterfield 8 in year 1960. In year 1960 Elizabeth became the highest paid actress up to the time she signed a $1 million contract to play the title role in Cleopatra. Then in year 1966 she starred in another film Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? with her husband Richard Burton for which she got her second Academy Award. She also worked in six more films with him - The V.I.P.s in year 1963, The Sandpiper in year 1965, The Taming of the Shrew in year 1967, Doctor Faustus in year 1967, The Comedians in year 1967 and Boom! in year 1968. Then in year 1967 she did Reflection in a Golden Eye and Secret Ceremony. Then later she came in The Only Game in Town in year 1970 which went flop. She then came in theatrical films in 1970s like Zee and Co. in year 1972, Ash Wednesday in year 1973, The Blue Bird in year 1976, A Little Night Music in year 1977. Then in year 1972 she made two films Under Milk Wood and Hammersmith Is Out and in year 1973 she made a TV movie Divorce His, Divorce Hers. In year 1980 she starred in film The Mirror Crack'd. Then in year 1985 she played in Malice in Wonderland. Her last theatrical film was 1994 The Flintstones. Then in year 2001, she played an agent in TV dilm These Old Broads. She came in several TV series like General Hospital and All My Children and animated series The Simpsons. In year 2003, Elizabeth declined to attend the 75th Annual Academy Awards, due to her opposition to the Iraq War. She was also known as smoked cigarettes in her mid fifties. In year 2005, she was a vocal supporter of her friend Michael Jackson in his trial in california on charges of sexually abusing a child. In 2006 August, she decided to take a boating trip just to prove she was not close to death. On 5th December 2007, California Governor Arnorld Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver iinducted Elizabeth into Hall of Fame which is at The California Museum for History. On 1 December, 2007, Taylor acted on-stage again, appearing in a benefit performance of the A. R. Gurney play Love Letters. The event's goal was to raise $1 million for Taylor's AIDS foundation. The price was $2500 for the show and more than 500 people attended.
