Gaana Bala Biography

Bala Murugan, better known by his stage name Gana Bala, is an Indian playback singer in Tamil cinema. He rose to prominence after rendering the songs 'Aadi Pona Aavani' and 'Nadukadalula Kappala' from the soundtrack of Attakathi. He has predominantly sung songs belonging to the gaana genre of Tamil Nadu. He has been credited with reviving the gaana genre in Tamil cinema after 'Thenisai Thendral' Deva, and he has also penned lyrics for some of his songs.

Early Life

Bala with a unique journey, first stumbled upon his passion in high school. His confidence blossomed at Presidency College, Chennai, where he pursued a degree in botany. He then went on to complete his Master's in Botany and even obtained a law degree. His artistic spirit soared when he won the TV reality show Gana Kuyil Pattu on Kalaignar TV. With a repertoire of devotional albums and captivating stage performances, Bala's musical journey is a testament to his versatility and talent.

Career

Bala made his debut in the film industry in 2007 with the song "Pathinoru Peru Aattam" from the film Piragu. From even the first song, he generated a separate fan base, but after the release of Pa. Ranjith's debut film Attakathi, in which his Aadi Pona Aavani sounded in every nook and cranny of Tamil Nadu, there was continuous rain at Bala's place.

He sang numerous songs, but many of the common audience members will get struck by his songs like Ora Kannala, Kaasu Panam, Hey Baby, En Veetula, Vaazhka Oru, Don't Worry Be Happy, All Your Beauty, Kaakidha Kappal, Athangarai Orathile, Adhaaru Udhaaru, Nadukadulula, and many other renowed songs. But in recent years, his songs have not been featured in any big movies or trending songs. From 2018 to 2023, he signed only 3 songs and was out of the cinema world.

Philanthropy

In addition to his singing career, Bala is also a law graduate and works as an advocate. He has contested local municipal elections twice as an independent candidate, losing only by slender margins. Bala, who identifies himself as an Ambedkarite, says, "I am always involved in community activities. I like helping people. I would have been a politician if I had not become a singer."
