Marimuthu Biography

G. Marimuthu is a multi-talented artist who has made his mark in both Tamil cinema and television. He made his directorial debut in 2008 with the film Kannum Kannum. He is also an accomplished actor and has appeared in a variety of films for which he has received critical acclaim, including Kadaikutty Singam, Pariyerum Perumal, Jailer, and many more. In 2022, he made his television debut with the Sun TV serial "Ethirneechal" and has quickly become a household name.

Personal Life

Marimuthu was born on July 12, 1967, in Pasumalaitheri, Theni. After his graduation from high school in Pasumalaitheri, he ran away from home in 1990 to Chennai to pursue his dream of becoming a film director. He married Bhagyalakshmi in 1994 and has two children, whose names he has never revealed. He is a self-made man who achieved his dream of becoming a film director through hard work and determination.

Early Life

After starting out as a waiter, he met lyricist Vairamuthu through their shared love of literature. He worked as Vairamuthu's assistant lyricist for several years before becoming an assistant director to actor-director Rajkiran on the films Aranmanai Kili (1993) and Ellame En Rasathan (1995). In 1995, he was promoted to major assistant director on the Ajith Kumar-starrer, directed by Vasanth.

Directional Life

After working as an assistant director to Mani Ratnam, Vasanth, Seeman, and S. J. Surya, Marimuthu made his directorial debut with the romantic film Kannum Kannum (2008). The film starred Prasanna and Udhayathara and featured a hilarious comedy scene by Vadivelu. Although it did not perform well at the box office, Kannum Kannum was critically acclaimed for its heartwarming emotional elements.

After a 6-year hiatus, director G. Marimuthu returned with the 2014 Tamil thriller Pulivaal, a remake of the Malayalam film Chaappa Kurishu. The film starred Vimal, Prasanna, Oviya, Ananya, and Soori and was a critical and commercial success. Marimuthu took a gamble by making the film with a commercial success that was five times higher than his film's budget, but it paid off. Pulivaal was praised for its hilarious comedy and thrilling screenplay. He pivoted from directing to acting, driven by financial and mental constraints.

Acting Life

Marimuthu made his on-screen debut in an uncredited role in Ajith's Vaali (1999) and then appeared in a brief cameo in Vijay's Udhaya (2000). Despite these early opportunities to work with big stars, he failed to get the break he needed to establish himself in the industry. However, his breakthrough role came in Mysskin's Yuddham Sei (2011), where he gave a critically acclaimed performance that finally put him on the map.

After Yuddham Sei, he starred in many films, but he only gained widespread recognition with critically acclaimed movies such as Nimirndhu Nil, Jeeva, Komban, Trisha Illana Nayanthara, Marudhu, Kodi, and Bairavaa. Karthi's 2018 film Kadaikutty Singam was a major breakthrough for him, as he demonstrated his flawless acting skills. In the same year, he also played a challenging role with ease in Mari Selvaraj's debut film, Pariyerum Perumal.

After this, he was offered countless film roles, which he accepted. He starred in a wide range of movies, from well-known blockbusters to lesser-known indie films. He was praised for his performances in both Lokesh Kanagarj's Vikram and Nelson's Jailer, and his final film, Rajnikanth's huge blockbuster, was a fitting send-off. He will also be posthumously featured in the films Indian 2, Manjal Kudai, and Red Sandal Wood.

Television Career

An obscure Kollywood actor went from being known by only a handful of people to a trending star throughout the Tamil-speaking world due to his role as the adamant male chauvinist Aadhimuthu Gunasekaran (AGS) in the Sun television daily soap opera Ethirneechal. His portrayal of AGS was one of the main reasons for the show's high TRP ratings.
