Career

His first leading role came in the 2002 film Kadhal Azhivathillai, directed by his father. His film Alai, which was released in 2003, bombed at the box office. Then came the Telugu remake Dhum and the Divya Spandana-starring Kuthu, which fared satisfactorily at the box office. Later, he collaborated with director Hari on the Kovil, which was a success and extended well into the C center.

In Manmadhan in 2004, he gained recognition for his acting and remarkable tale narration skills. Manmadhan's music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, and the two of them eventually developed a close bond. After Manmadhan, the Telugu version, he and Jyothika once again shared the screen in Saravana. He portrayed a gangster in Thotti Jaya, but the movie bombed at the box office.

He spent a considerable amount of time directing his subsequent film, Vallavan. His controversy with Nayantara also sparked attention in the interim. It was assumed that they both shared a short moment of love before breaking up later in the same year. Vallavan received mixed reactions and had an average box office performance.

When his film Kaalai was released in 2008, he once again fell short of the expectations of the audience. His second film, Silambattam, in which Sneha costarred, received favourable reviews and did better than average business at the box office. Additionally, he provided the Tamil voiceover for "Slumdog Millionaire."

In 2009, he and Gautham Menon began production on his 25th movie, Vinnaithandi Varuvaya. It was launched in February 2010 and quickly became a huge success. Silambarasan has proven the myth that he is both a talented performer and a popular commercial hero. He received many honours for the movie.

It was his second time partnering with Gautham Menon and A. R. Rahman on a movie, Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada. Arun Vijay, Arvind Swamy, and Vijay Sethupathi were also cast alongside Silambarasan in Mani Ratnam's Chekka Chivantha Vaanam in 2018.

Greater Comeback After Transformation

In 2021, STR released Eeswaran and Maanaadu. He performs in Eeswaran after transforming his appearance and losing weight. Therefore, he finished the film within 30 days of filming, although it was a commercial flop.

Maanaadu was a huge success at the box office and earned overwhelmingly positive reviews from both critics and viewers upon release. Maanaadu turned out to be STR's comeback movie. And he fused with Gautham Vasudev Menon once more in his next crime drama Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, it received favourable reviews and is commercially successful, just like his earlier film Maanaadu.
