Michael Copon to star in The Scorpion King

Melbourne (ANI): Michael Copon has been picked to star in ''The Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian''. The 'Power Rangers" actor will be taking over from Dwayne 'The Rock" Johnson in the Russell Mulcahy-directed pic. The movie, a prequel of the 2002 movie starring The Rock, will be going straight to DVD, reports Moviehole.

'The Scorpion King: Rise of Akkadian" will tell the story of a young Mathayus' rise to become the Scorpion King. The movie will also star fighter Randy Coulter and TV Conan Rolf Moeller, and is currently lensing in Cape Town.

The character of the Scorpion King was first featured in the 2001 movie 'The Mummy Returns" starring Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and Arnold Vosloo. The spin-off starring The Rock was the first film where the former wrestler played a lead role.
