Gil
Cates
has
been
given
the
task
of
ensuring
that
the
80th
Academy
Awards
are
an
affair
to
remember.
The
Oscars
take
place
February
24th
at
the
Kodak
Theater,
and
Cates
has
been
chosen
to
produce
the
event.
And
he
certainly
has
enough
of
experience
making
sure
that
everything
runs
like
clockwork,
for
Cates
has
produced
the
Academy
Awards
a
record
14
times.
The
announcement
was
made
on
Monday
by
Academy
of
Motion
Picture
Arts&Sciences
president
Sid
Ganis,
who
praised
Cates
for
being
"so
creative
and
inventive,
and
so
enormously
passionate
about
the
Oscars.
Cates
himself
is
extremely
excited
about
working
on
the
80th
Oscars.
"I
love
the
Oscars,
and
it's
a
great
treat
to
be
asked
back
for
the
80th
presentation," Variety
quoted
Cates,
as
saying.
Cates
most
recently
produced
the
Oscarcast
in
2006.
His
13
installments
to
date
have
earned
99
Emmy
nominations
and
25
wins,
including
a
win
in
the
category
of
variety,
comedy
or
music
program
for
the
Cates-produced
1991
telecast.
