Ellen DeGeneres, who married actress Portia de Rossi three months after the Californian Supreme Court legalised same-sex marriage, has been saddened by approving of Proposition 8 amendment, which has banned same-sex marriage in California. US talk show host bought $100,000 of TV airtime to campaign against the referendum.
In a referendum on Tuesday, Proposition 8 amendment was approved in a by 52.1 per cent of voters. According to the amendment, the marriage between a man and a woman is the legal union in California. This amendment to outlaw gay marriage, leaves thousands of gay couples in legal limbo.
On her tv show"s website, DeGeneres writes that America has taken a giant step toward equality by electing Barack Obama, but with it has taken a giant step away. She continues that “ban on gay marriage" will sound totally ridiculous. She will continue to speak out for equality for all.
