French actor Gerard Depardieu smashes car

London (ANI): French actor Gerard Depardieu has admitted damaging a car parked outside a nightclub near his Paris home. The 60-year-old Oscar nominee was seen "swaying and staggering" towards the vehicle parked at the roadside in the Left Bank district.

According to an eyewitness, he kicked the car's doors and smashed the windscreen with his fist. The star then "walked calmly" into his luxury town house just yards away, reports the Telegraph. However, Depardieu has admitted smashing the car but could offer "no reasonable explanation" why he did it, a Paris police source told French daily Le Parisien.

The cops said if the car's owner lodges an official complaint, then Depardieu could face a charge of criminal damage. Depardieu is one of the few French stars known throughout the world, and has made more than 100 films, many in English.
