Washington (ANI): Slumdog Millionaire is certainly on an award-wining spree, for the film has now bagged four prizes at the Richard Attenborough Film awards.

Directed by Danny Boyle, the film about an Indian boy winning a fortune in a reality show, was named film of the year. While Boyle won the director's prize, teenage actor Dev Patel claimed the rising star award. The 18-year-old star, who previously starred in E4 series Skins, also won the British Breakthrough Star prize, in a new People's Choice award.

"I have been absolutely amazed by the sheer scale and scope of the reaction to this film and I want to thank everyone for their support," Contactmusic quoted Patel as saying. Slumdog has already won four Golden Globes earlier this month, and even got the best ensemble cast at this year"s SAG awards.

In the People's Choice categories, The Dark Knight was named film of the year and won the film score award while Mamma Mia! took the best British film prize.

In the main categories, which are voted for by regional film critics across the UK, Kate Winslet picked up another best actress prize, for her role in the The Reader. "I am thrilled to have been honoured by this group of critics whose contribution to the world of cinema throughout the UK is invaluable and which too often goes unrecognised," said the 33-year-old actress.

While Mickey Rourke won the best actor prize, for The Wrestler, Martin McDonagh was named best screenwriter, for black comedy In Bruges.
