Cleopatra,
the
last
person
to
rule
Egypt
as
an
Egyptian
pharaoh,
is
making
a
comeback
on
the
big
screen.
Academy
Award
winner,
producer,
Scott
Rudin
,is
developing
a
project
on
the
legendary
empress
and
Angelina
Jolie
is
reportedly
playing
the
lead.
Rudin,
producers
of
films
like
No
Country
for
Old
Men
and
Revolutionary
Road
brought
the
rights
forthcoming
biography
called,
Cleopatra:
A
Life,
from
the
author
Stacy
Schiff.
Rudin"s
idea
of
casting
Jolie
in
the
lead
role
has
been
supported
by
Schiff,
who
thinks
that
the
Tomb
Raider
star
has
the
perfect
looks
to
fit
in
the
role.
It
remains
to
be
seen
who
fits
in
as
Julius
Caesar
and
Mark
Anthony.
It
is
not
the
first
time
that
a
film
is
being
made
on
Cleopatra.
Back
in
1963,
Joseph
L.
Mankiewicz
made
a
film
on
her
with
Elizabeth
Taylor
in
the
title
role.
The
film
won
four
Oscars
and
despite
being
the
highest
earning
film
of
the
year
suffered
a
financial
loss.
Director,
Steven
Soderbergh
also
tried
to
make
a
musical
based
on
Cleopatra"s
life
but
the
project
got
shelved
because
of
his
prior
commitments.
Apart
from
films,
the
Egyptian
ruler
has
been
a
popular
figure
in
literature
as
well.
She
was
subject
of
William
Shakespeare"s
tragic
drama
'Antony
and
Cleopatra
'and
also
Jules
Massenet's
opera
'Cleopatre".
