"We are saddened by the passing of beloved actor Leslie Nielsen, probably best remembered as Lt. Frank Drebin in The Naked Gun series of pictures, but who enjoyed a more than 60-year career in motion pictures and television," the Associated Press quotes his agent John S Kelly's statement.
Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Nielsen started his career as an aerial gunner in the air force and later he worked as a radio disc jockey. But he got his first big break in 1950 with a Studio One television appearance and this paved way to Hollywood. He entered films with the The Vagabond King in 1954.
Nielsen had a long straight career. He starred in nearly 100 films and 150 TV dramas. He started acting career with serious role in science flick like Forbidden Planet in 1956 and later he took on comedy roles and became very popular. He is always remembered for his acting in 1980′s Airplane! and the three Naked Gun movies.
We, at oneindia, express deepest condolences to Leslie Nielsen's family and friends. May his soul rest in peace.
