The production of Bond 23 might be on hold because of financial constraints but that is not stopping director Sam Mendes from working. The director who is scheduled to direct the latest Bond film is readying two projects. One of them being a Charlie And The Chocolate Factory Musical and another, an adaptation of On Chesil Beach, a novel by Ian McEwan.

On Chesil Beach revolves round the story of a newly married couple in the 1960s. The couple is going through a turbulent time figuring out their apprehensions and have anxieties over consummating their marriage. McEwan is writing the screenplay for the film and there have been reports of beginning of the shoot before the end of 2010.

As far as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical is concerned Warner Bros. theatrical department has been trying for a long time to get it onto the stage. There have been reports of the first act reading going well and Mendez is looking to launch the show in London, sometime around Christmas, 2011. Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are writing the tunes and the producers are on a look out for a set designer who can build the huge sets needed for the show.

Mendez, who won an Academy Award for his debut film American Beauty in 1999, was officially confirmed as a director of Bond 23 by producer Barbara Broccoli herself in April 2010. But the uncertain future of the debt ridden MGM has put the production of the film on hold indefinitely.
