On Sunday, Sony Pictures put The Smurfs" projected weekend gross at $36.2 million, which was identical to the estimated gross of DreamWorks and Universal"s Cowboys and Aliens. Both movies dropped roughly 23% on Sunday, making the race impossible to call Sunday evening. But on Monday, Universal put Cowboys' opening at $36.4 million, compared to $35.6 million for The Smurfs.
However, Cowboys and Aliens was projected to gross $40 million, while The Smurfs' bosses expected it to earn $25 million in the opening weekend. The Universal movie has failed to achieve the projected figure. Whereas The Smurfs' opening was still stronger than anticipated $25 million.
Universal Pictures' latest movie Cowboys and Aliens has beaten the movie The Smurfs in the weekend Box Office race. Both movies were tied for the top position with their collection $36.2 million each. But the actual figures showed on Monday that Cowboys and Aliens won the weekend with $36.4 million just beating The Smurfs' $35.6 million.
