George Clooney splits from his girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis

Actor George Clooney, the Sexiest Man Alive of Hollywood, has officially split from his Italian girlfriend, Elisabetta Canalis, of two years. On Wednesday, the couple have announced their break-up in a joint statement, which says that they have decided to part their ways due to some personal reason.

George Clooney and Elisabetta Canalis say that the reason behind their break up is strictly personal and they do not want to reveal it. A leading magazine quotes their joint statement, which reads, “We are not together anymore. It"s difficult and very personal and we hope everyone can respect our privacy."

Meanwhile, Elisabetta's spokesman says that she is now very upset with the split and needs a little time to talk about it in front of media. “It is a very personal and sad matter, and Elisabetta wants it to remain that way. She will take some time and will then face the press. She has not authorized me to say when the split happened," a website reports Canalis' ref as saying.

George Clooney hooked up with Elisabetta Canalis in 2009 after he broke up with his ex-girlfriend Sarah Larson. The celebrity couple was first seen in public at the Venice Film Festival in 2009. The actor and Italian model were reportedly spotted together in Italy last week.
