Glenn Close calls US Navy video offensive, insulting

Sydney (ANI): Actress Glenn Close has spoken about the use of her image by a senior US Navy officer on a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, calling it deeply offensive and insulting. Close, 63, said in a statement she appeared in a video clip after a “seemingly innocent request" made during a visit to the USS Enterprise more than four years ago.

The navy has permanently removed Captain Owen Honors from command of the carrier for the videos that included anti-gay slurs and sexual innuendo. Admiral John Harvey said in a statement in Norfolk, Virginia, the homeport of the nuclear-powered ship, that Honors had shown “exceptionally poor judgment".

“I have lost confidence in his ability to lead effectively, to command Enterprise," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Harvey as saying after reviewing the videos. “He is being held accountable for the poor judgment and inappropriate actions repeatedly demonstrated in those videos," he added.
