Actor Johnny Depp has reportedly been approached by the Warner Bros. to play the lead role in the screen-adaptation of 2002 novel 'Carter Beats the Devil'. He has been offered to portray the character of a magician in the film.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star is being offered the role of Charles Carter, a magician who creates grandest illusion of his career. But Johnny Depp, who always loved to act in offbeat films, is yet to sign on the dotted line.

Reports say that the discussion is in the early stages and it is too early to say whether the actor would agree to star in the film or not. It also adds that Johnny Depp is fully busy with his upcoming projects like 21 Jump Street, Dark Shadows and The Lone Ranger.

Even if he agrees to act in 'Carter Beats the Devil', Johnny Depp has to finish his signed projects before starting the film, say reports. However, the production house has started searching for a director for the upcoming film.
