Mike Medavoy to make movie on Chilean miners' story

The efforts are being made to bring the real story of Chilean miners to the big screen. According to reports, producer Mike Medavoy has acquired rights to the story of the 33 mine workers, who were trapped underground for 69 days. It is also reported that Motorcycle Diaries screenwriter Jose Rivera will adapt the movie.

The Chilean miners movie will be produced by Mike Medavoy and Edward McGurn. Mike's longtime friend Carlos Eugenio Lavin will be the executive producer. This film is scheduled to go into production next year. It recounts the events surrounding the mine's collapse and the subsequent rescue efforts.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Mike Medavoy said, “Like millions of people around the world, I was completely engrossed watching the rescue at Copiapo. At its heart, this is a story about the triumph of the human spirit and a testament to the courage and perseverance of the Chilean people. I can't think of a better story than this one to bring to the screen."
