There is a sad news in store for Stargate Universe fans, as the movie has been officially shelved. Stargate writer and executive producer Brad Wright has confirmed that the movie has been dropped.

Speaking at Creation Entertainment's Official Stargate Convention, Brad Wright said, “We just recently found out that the SGU movie is not going to happen," He further added, "It took too long. We just couldn't get it together in time, and the window has closed..... It's actually sad for me, because after 17 years, I'm cleaning out my desk tomorrow morning."

Syfy announced last year that due to poor ratings Stargate Universe would be cancelled at the end of second season. Though, the first season garnered good premier ratings, the second season failed to draw audience attention resulting in a poor ratings.

Meanwhile, Brad Wright is positive about Stargate's future. He feels "It's a franchise. Stargate is not over. Somebody smart from MGM is going to figure it out, and something will happen."
