Director
Jodie
Foster
has
said
that
her
latest
movie
The
Beaver,
which
was
premiered
at
the
Paramount
Theatre
stage
at
the
SXSW
Film
Festival
on
Wednesday,
is
not
a
comedy.
She
claims
that
the
movie
reflects
the
struggle
of
one
man
in
the
midst
of
a
spiritual
crisis.
Talking
at
the
premiere
of
The
Beaver,
Jodie
Foster
described
the
movie
as
the
biggest
struggle
of
her
life.
"This
is
not
a
comedy.
It
reflects
the
struggle
of
one
man
in
the
midst
of
a
spiritual
crisis," the
Hollywood
reporter
quoted
her
as
saying.
She
added,
"This
was
the
biggest
struggle
of
my
professional
life."
The
Beaver
has
a
deeply
intense
story
line
about
depression.
Foster
had
to
struggle
to
find
the
right
tone,
the
comic
bits
and
wit
for
the
film.
She
described
that
It
was
something
sensitivity
without
sentimentality.
The
movie
has
also
saw
many
ups
and
downs
due
to
Mel
Gibson's
controversies.
However,
the
film
dances
on
a
tightrope
of
tone
and
hard-to-digest
plot.
It
may
not
be
like
by
many
audience.
Gibson
is
playing
a
deeply
depressed,
barely
functional
husband
and
father
in
the
film,
whose
message
is
about
the
need
for
connection
and
helping
those
who
are
sick
whether
you
like
them
or
not.
