Reliance-DreamWorks Lincoln leads with 12 academy awards nominations


Mumbai: Anil Ambani owned Reliance-DreamWorks latest feature film Lincoln, directed by Steven Spielberg has received 12 nominations at the 85th Academy Awards.

Lincoln has been nominated in the categories of Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Editing, Best Music, Best Production Design and Best Sound Mixing.

Says Anil Ambani, "We are incredibly proud to have partnered with Steven Spielberg and Stacey Snider in the making of Lincoln. I congratulate them and the great cast and crew for the 12 Oscar Nominations."

The film is currently riding high across international film awards nominations and at the US Box office. The studio is delighted to be ruling the roost with the 12 Academy Award Nominations and 10 BAFTA Awards nominations.

Lincoln, released in the US on 16th November, 2012 and is still running strong at the Box Office with collections at USD 145 million as of yesterday. The film is slated to release in India on 8th February, 2013.

The BAFTA Awards have nominated Lincoln in the categories of Best Film, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenplay (Adapted), Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Anthony Asquith Award for Film Music and Best Make Up/Hair. The Golden Globes nominated the film in Best Director, Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Original Score - Motion Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Screenplay categories.

Screen Actors Guild Awards nominated it in the categories of Outstanding Performance by a Cast, Best Male Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.

Set against the backdrop of the Civil War, Lincoln is a historical drama which covers the final four months of the eponymous President's life, as he struggles with the continuing carnage while himself waging a war against his own cabinet in order to have the Thirteenth Amendment passed and thereby abolish slavery.

Reliance-DreamWorks' three films, The Help, War Horse and Real Steel bagged 11 nominations last year at the 84th Academy Awards.
