Veteran actor Jackie Chan finally broke his silence over son Jaycee Chan's drug arrest. Last Thursday, Jaycee Chan along with Taiwanese star Kai Ko Chen-tung were arrested in Beijing, on drug-related charges.
The 31-year-old son of Hong Kong's Kung Fu star, Jackie Chan was detained by the Beijing police along with his friend, Kai Ko Chen-tung. Jaycee became the latest high-profile celebrity to get caught in China's one of the biggest anti-drug crackdowns in two decades!
Jackie Chan spoke about the issue and said that he is ashamed and saddened over his son's detention on drug charges in Beijing. Jackie Chan added that he had "failed to educate" his child and even apologised to the public for the act of his son. "Regarding this issue with my son Jaycee, I feel very angry and very shocked. As a public figure, I'm very ashamed. As a father, I'm heartbroken," Chan wrote.
Jackie Chan wrote on his micro-blogging site that his son Jaycee will have to face the consequences but both father and son would do so together."I say to Jaycee that you have to accept the consequences when you do something wrong. As your father, I'm going to face the road together with you.
Police said that both Jaycee and Kai tested positive for marijuana and admitted using the drug. 100 grams (3.53 ounces) of marijuana was also found in Chan's house during the raid. Reportedly, Jaycee has even admitted that he has been using drugs for the past 8 years. The process, which was recorded on video, shows Jaycee facing the interrogation unprepared and trembling while holding a box of marijuana.
China named the elder Chan anti-drug ambassador in 2009 and his son's drug arrest has been really embarrassing. "Jaycee and I together express our deep apology to society and the public," Jackie Chan wrote.
Jaycee Chan is accused of aiding and abetting other drug users which is an offense that has a maximum sentence of three years imprisonment. Ko on the other side is accused of using drugs.
