It is the birthday of one of the most talented actors in Hollywood, Christian Bale. The handsome and brilliant English star turns 41 today.

Bale first caught the public eye at the age of 13, when he was cast in the starring role of Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun (1987). In 2000, he garnered critical acclaim for his portrayal of serial killer Patrick Bateman in American Psycho.

One of the best features of this actor is that he goes to great lengths to portray characters in film perfectly. We can't forget the incredible transformation that we saw of Christian Bale in 'The Machinist'. Although the actor did not win and Oscar, his makeover and acting skills made him a talented star who tries to keep it original. Bale lost 63 pounds (28.5 kg) to play the role of Trevor Reznik the psychological thriller movie.

Christian Bale became a worldwide sensation after starring as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Christopher Nolan's 'Batman Begins' in 2005. His greater commercial recognition and acclaim just kept spreading further with Batman movies from the franchise, 'The Dark Knight' (2008) and 'The Dark Knight Rises' (2012).

Bale got his first Academy Award for Best Supporting actor for his performance as Dicky Eklund in the biopic 'The Fighter' in 2010. Even for this movie, Bale had lost weight and was only 66 kgs.
