weekend which also includes the Presidents Day holiday, the movie
has made a lot of money. 50 shades has already made more than $239
million worldwide, including $81.7 Million domestically in the US
in just 3 days.
The erotic romantic drama which is based on BDSM theme has set a
new record by becoming the highest-grossing Presidents Day holiday
opener of all time.
That is not all! Fifty Shades ranks among the biggest R-rated
debuts in history. The movie which is the first installment from
the trilogy stars Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and
Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. The
story shows a life of a kinky billionaire, Christian Grey who has a
fetish for bondage, and Anastasia who is a naive college student
and falls in love with Grey.
Fifty Shades of Grey which is an adaptation by a novel by
British author, E.L. James of the same name grossed $81.7 million
from 3,646 locations over the three-day period, reports Variety.
The movie has broken the holiday's previous record-holder, the
2010 debut of the romantic comedy "Valentine's Day," which kicked
off with $56.3 million.
