Is Justin Bieber's new dreadlocks attracting more criticism than admiration?
Yesterday, on the sets of iHeartRadio Music Awards, JB performed a couple of songs and the fans went all nuts when he invited one of his female fans to dance along with him. Post the ceremony, Justin Bieber was criticised on social media for his dreadlocks.
His fans criticised him of cultural appropriation and was reminded that dreadlocks are more than just a stereotype of the black culture.
One of his fans wrote on his social media page that, "People are annoyed cause when black people wear this style they are stereotyped as druggies and are "unkempt" look at Zendaya for example. She had fake dreads and she was stereotyped."
Many fans were furious, some made it look funny and some adored his new hairstyle, but most of them accused him of culture appropriation.
Here are some of the fans' reactions to his new hairstyle:
A JB fan tweeted 'Justin Bieber got dreads. There's your (unwanted) daily dose of cultural appropriation.'
'Dreadlocks are cultural appropriation. we've taught u this before. Your hair is fine as it was.' another fan added.
'Just started liking Justin Bieber, giving him the benefit of the doubt, then he goes and gets dreads', a fan wrote on her Twitter page.
'justin bieber's dreads literally look like congealed ramen noodles lmfao stop trying white boy!!! (sic)', another fan tweeted.
Previously, other celebrities too have faced similar backlash for trying out dreadlocks from their fans, Kylie Jenner, Zendaya, etc, have all faced similar criticism from the fans throughout the world.
