Meryl Streep receives a standing ovation at the 89th Oscars after host Jimmy Kimmel mentioned her in his comments and slammed Donald Trump.

The 89th Academy Awards host Jimmy Kimmel's opening monologue ended with a tribute to the Hollywood's most iconic and celebrated actress Meryl Streep. However, Kimmel in his signature style made fun of President Donald Trump for calling the actress most 'overrated'.

Jimmy Kimmel in his speech addressed the actress Meryl Streep, who has got nominations in Oscar 20 times in her career, "one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood."

Because earlier this year, Donald Trump had mentioned Meryl Streep, as "one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood."

Drawing reference to that, Kimmel said, "Of all the great actors here in Hollywood, one, in particular, has stood the test of time for her many uninspiring and overrated performances."

"From her mediocre early work in The Deer Hunter and Out of Africa to her underwhelming performances in Kramer vs Kramer and Sophie's Choice, Meryl Streep has phoned it in in over 50 films." Jimmy Kimmel stated.

"Let's give Meryl Streep a totally underserved round of applause," added Jimmy Kimmel. However, instead, the actress received a standing ovation from the crowd and audience.

However, Kimmel further directed a joke at Meryl Streep saying, "Nice dress, by the way. Is that an Ivanka?"
