Zoe
Saldana
stated
that
she
had
been
bullied
in
school
as
she
used
to
speak
in
English
and
didn't
know
any
other
language
then.
Zoe
Saldana
said
that
she
had
been
highly
traumatised
by
this
and
had
to
visit
a
therapist
to
get
rid
of
this
problem.
"It
was
a
very
traumatising
time
for
me
because
I
didn't
know
how
to
stand
up
for
myself.
I
was
never
equipped,
trained
or
taught
to
defend
myself." Said
Saldana.
"My
mother
never
raised
me
believing
that
I
was
different,
so
the
moment
me
and
my
sisters
started
getting
attacked,
the
shock
was
the
first
reaction." Added
the
actress.
Zoe
Saldana
also
stated
that
bullies
can
actually
cause
a
lot
of
harm
to
one's
confidence
and
make
irreparable
damage.
"Bullies
can
reach
a
depth
within
you
that
may
cause
irreparable
damage.
There
were
years
that
I
felt
ashamed
of
myself,
thinking,
'I
should
have
known
better,
I
should
have
always
stood
up
for
myself." Said
the
actress.
However,
the
actress
said
she
went
for
therapy
to
get
rid
of
the
trauma
she
had
developed
during
her
childhood.
"Therapy?
F***
yes.
Whenever
I've
found
myself
in
a
rut
and
tried
bouncing
ideas
off
people
close
to
me
and
nobody
gave
me
a
good
reference
for
what
I
should
be
doing,
the
best
thing
was
to
call
my
therapist."
Saldana
explained.
