Dr.Karim Khan passes away

Dr.Karim Khan, a well known 98 year old veteran of Kannada Industry passed away on Saturday at Bangalore. He was the son of a Pathan. He lived at Number 86, Old Madras Road, Ulsoor in Bangalore and this is a very famous place in Bangalore. He was a Gandhian, poet, lyricist of Kannada films and expert in folk art.

Dr.S.K.Karim Khan was admitted to the Mahavir Jain Hospital on July 10 and it was later said that he was suffering from a number of ailments. He is remembered for the role he played in getting India her independence. He also went to jail many number of times during that period.

Though a Muslim by birth, Dr.Khan was bonded to Hindu Philosophy. He has also written story, screenplay, dialogues and lyrics for many mythological Kannada films. He has written over 250 songs. He made his debut with Swarna Gowri and later wrote screenplay, dialogues and songs in films like Gange Gowri, Shivalinga Sakshi, Jeevana Tharanga, Bevu Bella, Rajeshwari, Dombara Krishna. Some of his famous songs are Natavara Gangadhara Umashankara, Vanamaali Vaikunatpate, Nudimana Shivaguna Sankeerthana, Yee Jeevana Bevu Bella and Jayagowri Jagadeeshwari. Karnataka chief minister H.D.Kumaraswamy was one among the many fans who paid homage to the great man.
